Drawing of Product (15 marks)

Please remember that you must have each phase of a product (Investigation, Design, Production) signed off by your regular teacher before you proceed to the next phase of that product.

Outline

For this task you are to produce a drawing of your product in one of three ways:

  • * using a graphics program such as Photoshop, PaintShopPro, Fireworks or Image Composer. You are not to use MSPaint as it will not produce the required quality.
  • * drawing your product by hand and scanning the result to obtain an electronic copy of your product drawing
  • * actually creating a prototype of your product and taking a digital photo to obtain an electronic copy.

Investigation

Collect examples of representations of similar products to yours so that you can consider the best angle of representation to most clearly show your product and its main features. In writing - state which representation would be the best to use and why.

Design

Make a list of the features of your product that need to be clearly represented in a drawing to show it at its best. Consider whether a single product will be sufficient or whether you need to show two or more together -- perhaps from different angles or showing a range of sizes available. Is there anything else you need to include to demonstrate its best features, eg a different item to indicate the size of your product.

Production

Prepare to print a copy of your drawing in colour on A4. (The teachers will actually print this out for you on the colour laser printer in the last week.)
An electronic version of your drawing can be included in any other products as appropriate.

Evaluation

Those group members not involved in the production of this drawing should write a report indicating

  • the good features of the drawing
  • what could have been improved

Remember that you need to be critical but also constructive. Try to be particular in your analysis.
